Δ Report by Sol4r for Broken
Hieronder het verslag van clan Broken. Het originele artikel is te vinden op broken.gamer.hr.

Arrival

After being stuck in traffic for 3.5 hours, sui and me finally arrived at the Expo Center in Hengelo, the place where Drome XI was going to take place. The check-in went amazingly fast and we were ready to move our stuff to our seats. Calipt and lord had already arrived and were still busy carrying some of their stuff (aka loads of Green Tea) to their seats. About a half hour later BlaD3 arrived aswell and shortly after him dioxin showed up too.

Everyone set up their PC and connected to the network, all except dioxin that is... He had major PC problems, which he had been trying to fix even before he arrived at Drome. After hours and hours of formating and reinstalling it became clear the he needed new memory. The shop where memory was available was closed for the night, luckily sui was kind enough to let dioxin play on his PC for the competition. The following morning dioxin got some new memory and was ready to play (after he removed the Blaster virus that he got immediately after he installed everything :p)

Competitions

As planned we signed up for Q3 CTF and TDM. The sign-ups closed at about midnight, after closure we had untill 17.00 the following day to play our poule matches. Our poules were:

CTF:
Broken (broken)
Selwerd (slwrd)
United Force (uF)
Brabants Gedonder (bG)

TDM:
Broken (broken)
Loz Kampoz Fragging Force (LKFF)
Let_op
Clan K3

As you can see our poules were quite easy, with the hardest opponent being LKFF in our TDM poule. We won our CTF poule convincingly:
Broken vs slwrd (36 – 0)
Broken vs uF (21 – 0)
Broken vs bG (15 – 1)

Our TDM matches went really good aswell. Before we started the poule we played a practice vs deathreign:
Broken vs dr (246 – 317)
Broken vs LKFF (399 – 337)
Let_op and Clan K3 gave a default win to us.

TDM Play-offs

We ended up finishing 1st in our CTF aswell as in our TDM poule, so we had reached the play-offs. We decided to play our TDM playoff first. Our opponent in this match was United Forces. We beat them with little problems, 358 – 110. With this results we were on to the semi-finals where gzd awaited us. We knew this would be a very hard match for us, with little chance to win. We tried our best, but against the likes of blokey and deus there is very little you do. They choose Q3DM7 as their map and they played it very good, allthough I think we did okish aswell on the map, considering we’re a CTF team with little TDM experience together. CPM4 was a bit more hectic with us not able to get any quad and gzd hunting us down all the time. Not suprisingly gzd won the match with a score of 339 – 182.

Broken Line-up: BlaD3, calipt, lord and sol4r
Gunzoids.A Line-up: blokey, deus, dk and hydra.
Q3DM7: 87 – 147
CMP4: 95 - 192

This loss put us the losers-final where we had to play gzd.b for the 3rd place. Q3DM6 was pretty intense with both teams not letting the other getting a lead. Eventually we took a hold of the map and managed to create a lead big enough to secure the mapwin for us. We took OSPDM5 as our map. In the beginning it was a bit of fight over the rail and the quad area, but after about 5 minutes we had secured it and managed to keep it for the majority of the time. 20 minutes later we had beaten gzd.b with a score of 345 – 245, making us 3rd in the TDM competition.

Gunzoids.B Line-up: derfel, kronox, pok and r2k
PRO-Q3DM6: 170 – 133
OSPDM5: 175 - 122

CTF Play-offs

Our main goal was of course CTF. Gzd.b was our opponent in the quarter-final. We choose Q3WCP9 as our map and gzd.b choose Q3W3 as theirs. On Q3WCP9 we had an early cap and some danger of a counter-cap. We managed to get the majority of the powerups and then the caps came rolling in, with as result winning Q3WCP9 4 – 0. Q3W3 was up next. We don’t play the map very often so we didn’t know what to expect. Luckily it worked out pretty well, with some nice powerup runs of our “attacking-basedef” dioxin we managed to win the map 7 – 0 and got ourselves a ticket to the semi-final.

Q3W3: 7 – 0

In the semi-final we would meet a team we’ve been longing to play on LAN for some time now: 32nd Core. Allthough the didn’t have their strongest team available on Drome, forever, sifer and squall were still a force to be reckoned with. We started out with Q3WCP9 where we took the lead after about 5 minutes. Immediately after we capped they managed to score a cap for themselves and make it a tie. We took the lead again to 2 – 1 only to have 32nd make the equalizer again. A couple of minutes later 32nd made another cap, taking a 3 – 2 lead. A this time we had about 5 minutes to go and things looked kind of bad. We managed to make a cap quickly after they took the lead. Then, in the 18th minute, we brought the flag home to our base to take the lead once again. With 2 minutes to go we did what we could to keep the tie and it worked, a 4 – 3 win for Broken.

We knew 32nd doesn’t like Q3WCP1 much, so we figured we could give it a try vs them. The risky thing was that we aren’t so good atthe map either, so it was a bit of a gamble. 32nd made a cap after about 5 minutes to take the lead and about 10 minutes later they increased their lead to 2 – 0. If this wasn’t bad enough, we paused the game because an announcer at the LAN party requested that dioxin went to the information stand. It appeared his father had arrived and came to pick him up, so he had to leave immediately. Sui played the last 5 minutes instead of dioxin, but we weren’t able to do anything about the score.

The game was now 2 – 2 in matchpoints and the 1st to score 4 matchpoints would be the winner. After the mapelimination we ended up with Q3WCP15. Good because we wouldn’t be railed to hell all time, bad because it is a map where you can easily rocketjump out and score a quick cap. To our surprise the map went extremely well for us. Not in the way we had good mapcontrol or something (we lost about every powerup, including our own) but we managed to cap more then they did!. After 18 minutes we had a 4 – 2 lead and the 5th was nearing completion. We were sure to win the map now and we were definitely sure when we saw half of the 32nd team disconnecting. Too bad it had to end up in such a way, but other then that it was a great game.

32nd Core Line-up: forever, hux, sifer, squall and tdo.
Q3WCP9: 4 – 3
Q3WCP1: 0 – 2
Q3WCP15: 5 – 2

We made it to the finals!. As expected gzd was the other finalist. Allthough gzd had a good team available (blokey, dk, derfel, deus and r2k), we were convinced we had a good chance of beating them, because they seemed to have unexpected results vs other clans. As expected gzd picked Q3CTF2 as their map. TDM-wise we got raped on this map, with blokey and deus railing us to shreds on mid. We managed to hold them of for about 10 minutes, but Derfel managed to make 2 caps. We decided to change our tactics a bit and it seemed to work: we took 1 cap back to make the results a 2 – 1 win for gzd.

As mentioned earlier gzd had some “unexpected results” and 1 of them was on Q3W3, so we decided to try that map against them. Both teams played very defensive at the start of the map. Broken got every mid powerup in the early stage of the map. In the 10th minute BlaD3 brought home the flag and made the 1st cap. Gzd put up the pressure then and had some hard attacks. In the 18th minute their flagcarrier had reached their GL jumppad and was about to cap, luckily BlaD3 managed to rail him just in time and return it. With 1 minute to go we went in our “funf def” and kept the score at 1 – 0 in favour of Broken.

The mapelimination resulted in Q3WCP9. The mapchoice couldn’t have been better for us, but with a non-standard line-up we had to improvise a bit. This time both teams played very offensive with both teams getting an equal share of powerups. Half way in the match gzd managed to make a cap and it would be the only point scored of that map. We had our chances on Q3WCP9 but couldn’t finish them. Overall the game vs gzd was very enjoyable and exciting to play. At this time it was about 5 o’ clock in the afternoon and everybody was ready to leave. We unplugged our PC’s and waited till 6 o’ clock for the homage, where we would receive our prices.

Broken vs Gunzoids.A (CTF)

Gunzoids.A Line-up: blokey, derfel, deus, dk and r2k
Q3CTF2: 1 – 2
Q3W3: 1 – 0
Q3WCP9: 0 - 1

For our 2nd place in the Q3 CTF competition we received an A-OPEN Mainbord, a shuttle pc, a power supply, a bunch of Jolt Cola bottles and of course our cups.
For our 3rd place in the Q3 TDM competition we received a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra and cups aswell.
After the homage everyone was ready to leave and get back to home. At about 18.30 broken had left the building.

Drome: the non-gaming side

Besides the games I also want to write some stuff about the actual LAN itself. In my opinion it was a pretty good LAN. The check-ing was really fast, only took about 20 seconds to get checked in. When we plugged in our PC’s the network worked right away with no problems at all. The hall itself was nicely designed with lights and 4 bigscreens, special room for a sleeping hall, lots of game/hardware stands, good cathering and a nice relax area where you could watch a movie, play some table-footy or just sit back and have a nice beer.

The only major problem was the powerproblem. Luckily Broken wasn’t affected by this problem, but about a quarter of the hall was without power for about 8 hours. Only annoying thing was that we couldn’t play clans because they didn’t have any power, so we had to wait till the problem was fixed. Other then this I think the LAN was great and a big succes.

What’s also nice about LANs is that you meet the people  you normally play online with. I think this LAN has increased the friendship we already had in Broken and will surely be a benefit for our upcoming games. Always funny to meet people who are loud-mouths on the Internet, but are good people in real life.
