Hi,

i just want to know how safe our hardware will be. I never went to a Drome Lan before, so tell me, will it be stickers for tower and screen or how do you solve this problem?

Well .. how do you expect us to solve it ?
Let's face it: there will be (hopefully) 2000 people in the hall, with even more computers and like 10,000 small gadgets like PDA's, digicams and such. There is no way on earth we are able to track all those belongings.

So we would like to urge everyone to pay attention to their belongings. When you are going to sleep, take all the small stuff (like the digital camera, PDA, memory cards, wallet, Drome card, etc.) with you, either in your sleeping bag or under your pillow.

There will be security in the hall, to prevent major things from happening, but keeping track of all the personal belongings of 2000 peeps is impossible

Drome has a very good reputation in this matter. Ofcourse, there were things stolen last year, but those were things like mousepads, CD-R's and such. That's not an excuse for thievery, just pointing out the risks.

A way of securing hw is to give a number to each player visiting the lan. It can be a wristband or a button or something similar to this. Now each player gets two stickers, one for his computer, one for his screen and he puts the sticker onto it, or under it, just that it sticks to the hardware. Now there is only one exit you can use when you leave the hall with hardware and that is where is controlled if you own the stuff you are taking with you.

This is the way it is often done in germany, and it worked, even for partys with >1500 gamers. So i see no problem realizing this for 2000 people.

Though it seems a great idea and it should work, I personally don't want a sticker either on my PC and Monitor. Or will you remove the sticker for me? :P

It can be a sticker that is easy removable, without leaving traces. I think that will be a very small offer to make to prevent things getting stolen.

I think so too, and remember, you can even put it on the bottom side of your computer, so you will never see it again after the party ended.

fear wasnt that my whole computer would be stolen but
i in 2 weeks i got a videocard in my pc of 500 euro,
and thats only the beginning......
so i can put a sticker on my pc but that wont help
if sombody opens my case and steal all my value hardware

i was think about a alarm with 120db sound...
its a notebook alarm with a cable on it when sombody breaks
the cable or try to put it out the alarm goes off

Stickers are not the answer.
Just take your own sticker from your monitor/pc, walk over to the other guy/girl's PC. Remove other guy/girl's sticker, put your own sticker on it and walk out the door. Security checks your wristband/button and the sticker on comp....they match....= get out of jail free card.
Take sticker off when computer is in your car, walk back in and put own sticker back on own hardware -> Walk out with own hardware when other security dude is watching entrance.

Edit: And no, i don't do this for a living

Well 1st of all if you steal sum1 elses shit at a lan ure just lame. Let that be no.1
Second of all, dont use thumbscrews at a lan to have ure case lucked but use torgue screws. Pretty handy dude if he/she (has a torgue srewdriver at all)can then open your case in time n steal your shit without sum1 finding out.
Well ure PC screen is 2 obvious 2 steal, if sum1 steals ure screen just be like, who the fuck has my screen, guiranteed sum1 can tell you.
Keyboard n mouse... who the hell would want to steal mostly worthless shit like that.... (unless you got a 200 euro denovo set from logitech, but then you should ask ureself wot that set is doin at a lan :P)
Digicams, pda's, phones stuffs like that. Keep it with you at all times.

Thats how i would secure my shit :P

Plus my stuff is usally tagged with my nickname, easly reconizable.

ok there is a sticker way to do it
it's look the stickers they use in wall marts and different stores
the stickers that breaks apart when trying to peel off ( to avoid costumers to put a different price on the article they like to buy )
maybe that's an idea (5 days before the lan starts :) )

but to secure it for yourself there is a different way
bind everything big with TIE RIPS so people have to cut things loose before they can take it away
that takes to long and the guy / guyette (girl) will notice there's something going on next to him/her
(but securing a wallet or mouse mat with tie rips is a hard job and not recommended ) when you leave your spot for a wile maybe it's easier to take it along in a backpack or something to be sure

but watch out if you see something suspicius like people walking by for about 5 or 6 times and checking everything out real intence from a distance
and maybe persons that are trying to blend to hard are suspicious to

and don't be to shy or affraid to report such events to even the DROME Staff or your neighbour
it will help everybody

if you go with more ppl to drome just go to sleep in turn and let the other ppl watch your stuff and vica versa. or you could ask your neighbor to watch your stuff and youll watch his stuff.
